2nd Class have been learning all about the autumnal changes in trees. They have learned why leaves change from green to other colours like yellow, orange, red and brown. They wrote about these changes in their Nature Study Copy. See an example from Maya below. Yesterday 2nd Class celebrated Tree Day by visiting many of the native Irish trees in the school environment.

They presented tree facts in assembly about our native trees: the oak, the ash, the hazel, the birch, the hawthorn and the holly tree and our non-native sycamore tree. All these trees are found in and around our school grounds. They took small branches and fruits of each to show them to the other classes alongside pictures of each. It is the Year of the Holly Tree, Crann Cuilinn a lovely easy to recognise tree. We are lucky in our school to have two holly trees but we will also be getting a new holly tree shortly.  To find out more about trees and tree day check out: Tree Day
