Science Week in 6th Class
6th Class had a fun and busy Science Week 2020. We kicked it off with a STEM Engineering Challenge where we designed a working rescue device using recycled materials. We followed this up with a Mysterious Microbes workshop hosted by Ballyroan Library where we investigated germs using ultraviolet light. We also looked at bacteria on our teeth and in food. We have been learning about the Deforestation of the Amazon and the impact the Amazon has on our environment. We were joined by Tom Hennigan, Irish Times correspondent for South America, live from Sao Paolo, Brazil. He spoke to us about the first hand effects of Deforestation and answered all our questions. We topped it all of with our ongoing experiment on the centre of gravity and an opportunity to use some fire!
