Responsibility is our April Value of the Month
Our core value for April is Responsibility. In Educate Together schools, “responsibility” means a shared commitment to fostering an inclusive, democratic community where all stakeholders—students, parents, and staff—actively contribute to the school’s daily life and atmosphere. It entails accountability for one’s actions, stewardship of the environment, and ensuring the rights of all individuals are respected.
Key Dimensions of Responsibility The value of responsibility is integrated through specific “rights and responsibilities” charters and the “Learn Together” ethical curriculum.
Democratic Participation: Parents, teachers, and students have a responsibility to participate in the democratic processes of the school, such as student councils and Boards of Management.
Environmental Stewardship: Students are taught to take an active role in protecting their environment, which includes practical initiatives like waste management and promoting biodiversity.
Ethical Behavior and Learning: Students have a responsibility to do their best in school, behave well, and accept others for who they are. Schools have a responsibility to provide a safe, caring, and respectful environment for all children, while the responsibility for religious formation rests with the families.
