On Wednesday the 27th of January 2016 2nd Class did Aboriginal Art.

How did the Aborigines do art?

The Aborigines did it by little dots. Like this: …..

Only a LOT more colourful.

It is almost like finger painting!

We did it with chalk.

The aborigines used colours that went together.

For example: red, orange and yellow.

If you want to try it, I advise you to do it on black paper.

The pictures they made were often things like the nature they saw around them.

Or sometimes the aborigines just did swirly patterns!

Why did we do it?

Tuesday, the 22nd January was Australia Day.

This is the day when Australians celebrate their country

It is a bit like St Patrick’s Day in Ireland, only in Australia.

A bit about Aborigines

They have gone through a tough time.

In the 1770s many British people arrived.

Unfortunately, around that time the Aborigines had to experience much violence and persecution.

It was so bad; they even got excluded from citizenship.

This was until the year 1967

In the census of 2011 3% of the Australian population identified themselves as Aboriginal while 10% identified themselves as being Irish!

P.S This is me playing a didgeridoo!

Just like some Aborigines do!
