New Primary Language Curriculum for English and Irish

Staff had a full day of training on the new Primary Language Curriculum on Tuesday 12th November.  Please see information for parents on the Primary Language Curriculum from the NCCA below.

New English and Irish Language Curriculum

All curriculum used in primary schools will be updated over the next few years. The new Primary Language Curriculum for English and Irish is the first part of this. Children from Junior Infants to Second Class have already been experiencing this new curriculum. Now this is being extended to classes from Third to Sixth.

The curriculum is changing so that it is up-to-date with the times we live in. Since the last curriculum change was in 1999 (20 years ago), there have been developments in language learning and the introduction of free Preschool Years education. Digital tools and ways of accessing information has greatly changed in the last twenty years. Society and Communities in Ireland have changed greatly, as has your child’s learning environment. Thanks to research, we now know more about how children learn to speak, read and write and how to help them make progress in ways that are well suited to their learning needs. Further information in is the NCCA leaflet attached below.
